SSS ~ Sewing Summer Skirts
What's on the cutting board:
Skirts!
I've used my blogging break for a sewing session.
I love wearing skirts, especially in the spring and summer with knit tops and sandals.
Well, I love them in the winter and fall too with sweaters and tights.
I have a favorite pattern that I make most of my skirts by and I'm always sorry when I veer from it (which means I don't/can't wear what I make).
I use a pattern I've had for many years and that I've altered to fit my petite, curvy proportions.
It's a very simple A-Line style with a side zipper and no waistband.
I sometimes change it up by adding pockets or pleats.
So, with my own tailor-made pattern I don't know why I even try another pattern.
Here's the latest three fabrics I've been working with.
I've learned that lined skirts are the way to go because I don't have to wear slips with them.
I buy bedsheets when I find them at thrift stores or yard sales.
They make the best linings because they've usually been washed many times and are so very soft and comfy and can be bought for around $1.
And I can make five or six linings out of one sheet! Very economical.
Here's a sampling of my skirts ~ all made from the same pattern.

I've gotta get up and get busy now.
I'm getting ready for a camping trip.
Sweet hubby and I are taking a loooong weekend and spending a little time for rest and relaxation ~ and attending a play, and a little fishing, and a little shopping ...
I'll be posting pictures of my new skirts as soon as our rainy weather clears up and I can get photos made.
I leave you with a picture of my kindred spirit. She always wears A-Line skirts too. :)

I'm Going on a Diet ~ Starting Today
A Computer diet that is.
My computer time is taking away too much from my simplicity time.
That's the simple truth.
And I'm trying to make simple decisions.

You rarely have time for everything you want in this life, so you need to make choices. And hopefully your choices can come from a deep sense of who you are.

Simplicity Week ~ Day 2
I loved Day 2 of my Week of Simplicity!
Maybe you can join in with for the rest of the week?
Or maybe for one day?
Even a couple of hours would be wonderful.
I promise!
Yesterday's early morning walk was so much fun that I just couldn't wait to get started on today's stroll!
You know what I discovered?
The sweet-smelling honeysuckles are beginning to bloom out!
So I had to run walk quickly back home and get my camera.
Then I had to carry on with my photography into my flower garden while the "dew was still on the roses".
I snapped pictures of one of my garden favorites.
Pink Carnations
I was happily surprised when I spotted the little bee that had flown into my picture.
Here's a close-up of him.
He was such a ham.
Then, in the edge of the woods I spied these little wild daisies.
At least that's what I call them now.
When I was a little girl, playing house with my friends, we served these little flowers up on our jar lid plates.
What were they?
Fried eggs of course!
I ended up my outdoor photo session with pictures of my happy faced pansies.
Don't they remind you of children's smiling faces?
Speaking of children's smiling faces
I went to kindergarten today!
I love my weekly visit with that classroom of happy, giggly little ones.
I go to especially help one little precious boy.
Today we played Go Fish with his vocabulary words.
He won.
He always wins!
I used to let him win, but now I really try to beat him but I can't!
His teacher is so happy that he's doing so much better recognizing his letters and words.
I'm so happy to be able to walk into the classroom and feel completely and unconditionally loved by 17 of God's little ones.
I came straight home and drew the picture of my little friend with our homemade Go Fish cards.
Who knew something as simple as a pack of index cards filled with handwritten words could teach letters and words and be so much fun?
P.S.
I did squeeze in my household chores.
And I cooked a simple supper; stir fry with toasted, buttered biscuits (which were left over from last night).
P.S.S
Guess what I had for lunch?
Bet 'cha can't guess.
A fried egg sandwich!
The real thing!!!
Thanks for stopping by to read about my simple day.
I hope you decide to try it.

Simplicity Week ~ So Far, So Good
My simple week has started out on track.
I began my household chores early in the morning so I would have more play time in the afternoon.
I threw in a load of laundry before breakfast and had it on the clothesline by
8:00 a.m.
8:00 a.m.
I took time for a pleasant walk in the cool of the morning.
I then moved on to vacuuming the floors and detail cleaning the dining room (Flylady's mission).
After lunch I did some pleasure reading, then some ironing.
Supper was simple.
Breakfast.
Biscuits, bacon, and cottage fried potatoes.
We love breakfast for supper.
After supper and kitchen clean-up, we attended our youngest son's soccer game.
Then sweet hubby and I settled down for a little visit to Mayberry before bedtime.
A simple ending to a simply blessed day.

My word for the week ~ Simplicity
I'm so happy you dropped by to see what I'm up to.
I've just fixed myself a cup of coffee and am sitting down to think about this new week.
I'm expecting a great week!
I don't have anything great planned, but I'm still expecting a great week.
I have planned a week of simplicity.
To me that means:
less time in the kitchen
more time with my family
more time outdoors
more time playing
My simple outfits for the week are:
skirts
tank tops
flip flops
My planned meals for the week are:
very simple fare ~ maybe a casserole with fresh raw veggies and bread
My simple activities are:
a little drawing
a little reading
a few homey chores
a few homey chores
a little of puttering in the yard
leisurely walks
daily prayers and devotion
doing something to make someone else happy
I hope to make a simple daily post about what I do each day this week.
I make no promises though.
I may get so carried away with my simple plans that I forget.
What are your plans for the week?
I hope they include time to be sweet to you because you're such a sweet person.

Sunday
It's a beautiful Sunday morning here in our part of Alabama.
I'm dressed and ready for church.
I didn't want to pull out the tripod and make my own picture so sweet hubby lent a hand with the camera this morning.
Please excuse my silliness.
AND!
My very first Etsy purchase!
Salvatore Ferragamo Vintage shoes
They are so buttery soft and comfortable.
I bought them from a very sweet lady named Nancy.
She is a great seller and I love the shoes!
Here's the link to Nancy's Etsy shop.
Now sweet hubby and I are headed out for Sunday morning worship at our little church.
I hope you have a blessed Sunday.
